Global London - Cyber & Data Risk - Internship (3 month FTC)

Cyber and Data Risk Team
We provide our clients with a full service solution, tackling the full spectrum of cyber and data risk. We work collaboratively with cyber security experts to provide a coordinated approach to the legal and technical aspects of cyber risk.

A Sector Specific Approach: Different sectors face different cyber and data risk challenges. We understand the law and the way it is applied by regulators and provide pragmatic, commercial risk based advice. Our Cyber & Data Risks team consists of sector specific experts in the insurance, health, and technology sectors, who can guide you through the plethora of sector specific laws and guidance.

International Reach: We regularly provide advice on international projects covering legal advice in multiple jurisdictions. Where we do not have an international office we work with trusted data protection specialist firms across the world offering a pragmatic and seamless approach across international boundaries.

Our team collaborates with cyber security experts in the event that a client organisation's security is breached, to provide comprehensive breach management solutions to navigate a client through the incident response process of a cyber-attack.

We are the first choice law firm for insurers who indemnify these risks, advising both the insurers and policyholders who suffer data breach incidents and face claims in respect of data protection and information law.

The Role
DAC Beachcroft is looking for a suitable candidate to work alongside the Cyber and Data Risk professionals in the firm's London office.  

The role will include, amongst other things:
  • Conducting a review of a wide range contentious cyber incident files, and assisting the team with data capturing and drafting a report/presentation which identifies emerging patterns and trends to be widely distributed to clients and Insurers;
  • The opportunity to conduct legal research regarding various ongoing matters within the firm;
  • Providing assistance to the team members with their day to day activities;
  • The opportunity to attend consultations and telephone calls with clients as well as presentations given both internally and outside of the firm. 
  • Handling confidential information in line with the firm's data security protocols.
  • Join team and client social events. 

The role will promote exposure to the ever adapting landscape of the cyber world, providing valuable experience to those keen on pursuing a career in this area.  This will be based on a flexible arrangement, depending on the candidate's University schedule. The hours of the internship will be roughly from 09:30 until 17:30, but the candidate will not be expected to work a full day.

The Candidate:
DAC Beachcroft is seeking a top class candidate with commercial acumen, ambition and determination to fulfil the demands of the role outlined above. The Cyber Team is looking for an individual with the relevant legal qualifications, and an interest in Cyber Risk and Data Protection, to join the team as an intern for 3 months starting in Autumn 2024.  
  • The candidate must be competent with MS Office, in particular; Word, Excel and Outlook, ideally with the ability to create graphs and pivot tables;
  • Experience of using a case management system would be helpful, although training will be provided;
  • Ideally the candidate must be able to demonstrate a reasonable level of self-sufficiency and initiative, combined with an awareness of their own boundaries of competence /authority; 
  • The candidate must be able to deal confidently and professionally with colleagues on day to day issues; and 
  • The candidate must be team orientated and collegiate.
