Paralegal Assessment Centre - Recoveries - Birmingham

Job Introduction

We are looking for Paralegals to join our recoveries team in Birmingham on a permanent basis. You will have an excellent opportunity to develop your legal skills, knowledge and career in our Triage, Motor Recoveries and Property Recoveries teams.
 
  • Our Triage team is key for direct client contact and preliminary assessment of claim prospects.
 
  • Motor Recoveries and Property Recoveries will allow you to develop your technical ability across a number of perils: RTA, impact, escape of water, escape of oil, product liability, defective premises, accidental damage, fire, contribution or enforcement.
 
  • A recovery claim is challenged on a number of grounds including liability, causation and quantum. As part of the small claim centre of excellence, you will progress your own cases through pre-action and litigation. As part of the recoveries (DA) team, you will handle your own caseload of Fast & Multi-Track matters, including liability disputes and a variety of litigated and pre-litigated work. What you will do 
 
You are expected to provide a timely, professional and high-quality service to our clients in the management of pre-litigated and litigated recovery cases. Depending on your role, and with the support of a supervisor and team manager you will be expected to:
  • Screen matters for prospects and liaise with clients upon receipt of instructions.
  • Review instructions and provide client advice on case prospects.
  • Be responsible for a varied caseload of pre-litigated and litigated work.
  • Assess liability and quantum and develop an appropriate strategy for the case.
  • Resolve claims through negotiation and litigation within client service standards.
  • Instruct experts and counsel, draft Witness Statements and other Court documents.
  • Maintain contact with our clients and their Customers whilst proactively managing their expectations.
  • Meet individual performance measures (financial performance, realisation rates and other KPIs).
  • Ensure that the DAC Beachcroft brand and standards are maintained. 
 
Who you are 
 
  • Relevant experience in a similar role or in an insurance environment is desirable but not essential and we are happy to hear from graduates who are team players and have the passion for learning.
  • Ability to structure your time well, prioritise work effectively and recognise when to ask for help.
  • Good communication skills to liaise with clients, intermediaries and colleagues.
  • Ability to critically look at factual evidence, identify key legal arguments and apply the same.
  • Commitment and enthusiasm with a professional attitude.
  • Commercial awareness, resilience and confidence.
  • Demonstrates alignment with the Firm’s Cultural Principles (Clear, Creative, Determined and Supportive).
 
What you need to know about applying 
 
This will be a 2 stage application process, the first stage is CV review with successful candidates being invited to a face to face assessment centre in our Birmingham office on Wednesday 8th May (candidates must be available to attend on this date and also be able to attend in our Birmingham Tricorn House office). 
 
The intended start date for the available positions will be Tuesday 28th May however there will be some flexibility on this if required. 
 
The closing date for applications will be Sunday 21st April.
 
Successful candidates will work on a hybrid basis and will need to be able to attend the Birmingham office 3 days a week (this may be reviewed on completion of probation).
