Technology Projects Lawyer (TMT) - Leeds/Manchester/Newcastle

Please Note: The application deadline for this job has now passed.

Job Introduction

Are you looking for a role as a dedicated technology projects lawyer, where you can work from the North of England on complex technology projects for major clients without compromising on client contact and quality of work…with a genuine opportunity for career progression in a fast growing team?  An opportunity in our National TMT Team – working in Technology Projects and based in the North - may be for you.

We support mainly large national and international businesses and institutions on often business critical and transformational projects for the procurement and implementation of complex ICT solutions.  Our clients are typically leading players in their fields: top 20 global insurers, national UK health bodies (often recently leading the fight against Covid), major government departments deploying national policies, as well as a range of regional financial and data institutions such as leading Building Societies.

Our team has its Northern hub in Leeds with additional members based in both Manchester and Newcastle.  It is highly ranked in the legal directories and sits on the top tier panels for tech project work for many major clients.  It is a seamless part of our national 40 strong TMT Team.

The international dimension of the practice is noteworthy: we are deeply involved with the International Technology Law Association (indeed our team includes the current Vice President) and this supports the often international dimension to our work.  We have the backing of a truly international firm with over 2,500 colleagues across 9 countries and with a myriad of international associations further bolstering our capabilities.

The projects we work on require diverse and deep specialisms: our team works collaboratively with colleagues including our substantial Information Law, Financial Services Regulatory and Procurement teams who help us deliver holistic tech projects legal support.

We aim to encourage diversity by offering the opportunity to bring your whole self to work, underpinned by our employer brand of A Life That Works.  Our team are very busy and work hard, but we offer genuine flexibility to allow you to meet your personal and work commitments – and that flexibility won’t disappear post-Covid! – it has been hardwired into our DNA for years.  All across our team, from our emerging talent to our senior leadership, you won’t find a closed door, real or virtual.  Read on for more information about our specific vacancy and the firm as a whole.

Role Responsibility

As part of our growth and re-shaping strategy, our Northern Technology Projects team is offering a number of new and exciting opportunities.  We are currently building on our very successful techlaw pedigree and well established client base.

The successful applicant would work primarily on commercial/IT and telecoms projects. The workload includes commercial agreements, software development and licensing, some intellectual property matters, telecoms contracts, compliance and general regulatory work, broader managed services and IT and business process outsourcing agreements, as well as public/private partnership IT projects.

The Ideal Candidate

Due to our growth and the reshaping strategy, we are open minded about the qualification level of the candidates we see but need to recruit towards the top end just now: we are most interested in what you think you can bring to the role and to the team, and whether we are the right fit for you.

For this role, we are looking for a more experienced Solicitor (5-7 PQE)

You will already have several years working on complex commercial projects, often with a technology focus; you will have a keen interest in the tech sector and how tech can transform organisations; strong project management skills and the ability to lead a small project team.  A basic level of competence in data privacy is also important. Public and financial services sector experience would be an added bonus.

We are looking for new colleagues who have an interest in technology and how it can help clients to achieve their goals, as well as the risks along the way and how best to manage these contractually and commercially. We look forward to discussing our opportunities with you.
