Solicitor/Associate - Healthcare Regulatory

Job Introduction

DACB's Health, Care and Public Law Team provides legal advice and training to a wide range of organisations operating in the health and social care sector, including NHS Trusts, independent sector providers, charities, commissioners and investors.

We have a number of opportunities for qualified professionals of all levels to join our team and undertake regulatory and advisory work, including patient care issues and mental health advice, coroners inquests, advice on CQC inspection, regulation and enforcement.  

The Team plays an important role in DACB's broader Health practice, which is widely recognised as the leading strategic, commercial and regulatory legal adviser to the health and social care sector in the UK.

As leading advisers in the health and social care sector we are regularly instructed in ground breaking and high profile cases. The Health, Care and Public Law team provide legal advice, legal updates and training to internal and external clients in the firm's health and social care sector on regulatory issues, healthcare law, information governance, inquests, CQC inspections and enforcement, professional disciplinary, performers list advice and representation, serious incidents, domestic homicide inquiries, criminal investigations, mental health, patient care issues, Human Rights Act issues, and clinical and corporate governance. We provide strategic advice to clients across the public and independent sector throughout health and social care providers and commissioners.

Role Responsibility

  • Handle a varied workload in accordance with client protocols and with an appropriate level of supervision.
  • Act as a point of contact for clients, demonstrating a level of knowledge and skill commensurate with experience.
  • Exercise full compliance with DAC Beachcroft protocols on billing and credit control and demonstrate a high level of financial management in respect of own files
  • Aim to achieve a budgeted annual target of 1440 chargeable hours per year
  • Support marketing and business development activity within the team e.g. attending marketing events and client training
  • Build an awareness of the Firm's other services. Build effective internal and external networks.
  • Maintain an awareness of the firm's strategies and plans
  • Maintain and develop technical knowledge through attendance at training sessions, reading appropriate publications and exceeding Law Society CPD requirements
  • Handle confidential information in line with the firm's data security protocols.

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for solicitors of any PQE level, ideally with experience in Health and Social care Law, but we would welcome applicants from other backgrounds also. A highly motivated individual to fit into a responsive team providing excellence in service to our health and social care clients. Experience of some or all of the following would be of interest:

  • Coronial law
  • Mental health law
  • Mental Capacity Act/DOLS/Court of Protection
  • Adult and/or Children's Safeguarding
  • The Care Act and related statutory framework
  • Advocacy
  • Commissioning
  • NHS Continuing Healthcare / interface with social care
  • Risk management
  • Criminal investigations and prosecutions
