Solicitor - Specialist Liability

Job Introduction

The Specialist Liability  team advises insurers, public and private sector clients, charities and religious organisations in their defence of sensitive claims which carry the risk of damage to reputation.  Our National team advises  clients who are a mix of leading names in the insurance industry as well as household names in the private and charitable sectors.  Increasingly, the team is  involved in pre-emptive advice on these issues as well as dispute resolution.

Role Responsibility

This role is within the Newcastle Specialist Liability Team dealing with claims arising from allegations of sexual or physical abuse and failure to protect claims. The successful candidate would also deal with claims arising from breaches of the Data Protection Act 1998 and Human Rights Act 1998. The applicant must have personal injury or clinical negligence litigation experience

Day to day responsibilities will include but are not limited to the following:-

  • Sound file management- to include consistent and accurate: billing; management of WIP and file closures; completion of Management Information.
  • Dealing with clients’ case management systems
  • Participating in marketing and client training events where necessary.
  • Building relationships with client contacts at all levels (due to the nature of the work, contacts range from in house legal and insurance teams, insurers, human resources teams, line managers etc)
  • Handling confidential information in line with the firm's data security protocols

The Ideal Candidate

  • This position is suitable for a solicitor with a minimum 5 years’ PQE,
  • Assisting the Head of Specialist Liability team.
  • Experience of working in a target driven commercial environment.
  • Excellent commercial awareness and an interest in broader business issues.
  • Ability  to provide commercially rounded advice to clients and view things from a business perspective.
  • Flexibility and pro-activity with an ability to adapt to rapid change, both internally and in the context of clients' businesses.
  • Team player with a collegiate approach to knowledge sharing and problem solving.
  • The ability to deal with sensitive and confidential information.
  • Good IT skills.
