Senior Database Specialist

Job Introduction

We are currently recruiting for a Senior Database Specialist to design, monitor and maintain the company’s databases and to provide subject matter and 3rd line technical expertise on SQL Databases. As well as this the Senior Database Specialist will assist MI, Applications and Development teams on problem resolutions and the delivery of business projects .

Role Responsibility

  • Architect/Design (Infrastructure), Implement, configure, and maintain database instances, replication, backup, partitions, storage, security and access
  • Manage monitoring and optimisation of system performance
  • Document and maintain configuration for the design, routines, processes and tools
  • Identify areas for improvement.  Recommend solutions based on the technical analysis of business requirements
  • Design and manage production and non-production environments
  • Administration of Microsoft BI suite (SSIS, SSRS & SSAS)
  • Operate in a highly skilled and respected technical team controlling the delivery of key components for database administration, implementation and upgrade projects
  • Lead ongoing 3rd line support activities related to the firm's Database Infrastructure, taking ownership of and escalating to Infrastructure and Problem Managers when required
  • Review capacity requirements and manage capacity planning for database systems
  • Ensure that IT continuity plans, technology and tools safeguard data integrity, security and access
  • Taking steps to guarantee the integrity and availability of our data.
  • Mentor and transfer knowledge and skills to the Infrastructure team
  • Working with Development and MI Teams to influence and advise on the best solutions.
  • Input to technical strategy and architecture, project engineering design and documentation
  • Evaluation of potential solution providers, selection of preferred supplier
  • Liaise and work with development ,and production support teams to achieve the best solution
  • Develop implementation test plans ensuring functionality, performance, availability and continuity are delivered to specification, policies and best practices
  • Act as technical specialist to project teams
  • Evaluate change control requests for impact
  • Ensure compliance with DAC Beachcroft's information security policies, standards and procedures in the day-to-day delivery of IT services
  • Support information security risk assessments within IT Service Delivery by making resources available where appropriate
  • Proactively identify and report security risks to the Information Security team
  • Advising on and implementing security best-practice.
  • Understand the business and its objectives
  • Co-ordinate with teams within IT to ensure that service outages are correctly communicated to the business or affected users
  • Work with the problem management team or other virtual teams as required
  • When required represent Infrastructure at team, department and supplier meetings
  • Develop and maintain knowledge and skills and keep up-to-date with new processes, procedures and developments
  • Attend training to develop relevant knowledge and skills
  • Handle confidential information in line with the firms data security protocols
  • Is also willing to take ownership on any other tasks and responsibilities required until complete

The Ideal Candidate

Experience

  • 5+ years of DBA experience in MS SQL environments.
  • Strong experience of database infrastructure design/architecture
  • Automation / multi-platform scripting, Powershell
  • SQL Clustering / Always On Availability Groups /SQL Server Enterprise
  • Ability to design database infrastructure as part of a complex multi-platform environment.
  • Experience of a Cloud technology (Azure/Aws)
  • Solid skills in database performance factors, monitoring tools and tuning procedures
  • High availability environment experience and disaster recovery
  • Stay up to date with latest developments and industry best-practice
  • Legal industry exposure (Desirable)

Qualifications

  • 5+ A – C GCSE's
  • 3 A Level or GNVQ
  • ITIL V2 or V3 Foundation
  • Microsoft Certified Database Qualifications (Desirable)
