Professional Negligence/Commercial Litigator (2-4 PQE)

Please Note: The application deadline for this job has now passed.

Job Introduction

We are looking for a litigator with experience in professional negligence claims (particularly claims against accountants and financial professionals) to join our highly-regarded Commercial Litigation team in London.

Ranked number one in The Legal 500 (Commercial Litigation Mid-Market), our growing team comprises 7 specialist partners, over 25 lawyers of varying levels of qualification, three trainees and numerous paralegals. The team also has a dedicated professional support lawyer who assists with legal and regulatory developments, and provides legal training to help our lawyers flourish and progress their careers.

We advise professional clients such as accountants, tax advisers, trustees, insolvency practitioners and other financial professionals on claims brought against them for negligence, breach of contract, breach of fiduciary duty, misrepresentation, fraud, professional misconduct and disciplinary issues. Our work also involves advising on regulatory investigations by FRC, HMRC, FCA, SFO and CPS; internal investigations where a firm identifies conduct irregularities or possible regulatory breach; and damage mitigation including asset preservation and reputation management.

Our wider team also advises on a diverse range of commercial disputes, investor disputes, transactional liability, bribery and corruption, money-laundering and new challenges such as cyberattacks, data theft, diversity and inclusion and ESG requirements.

We attract high value, complex matters which are regularly reported on in the legal press and much of the current work relates to claims valued between £10-100M+ in value. However, the role will also involve acting for clients with smaller claims, providing a genuinely ‘hands-on’ role for our developing lawyers.

Role Responsibility

  • Ambitious, enthusiastic and motivated
  • Capable of understanding and assisting with complex commercial litigation and professional negligence claims
  • Shows sound judgement in decision making, focused on client and case needs
  • Demonstrates and continuously develops a high quality level of technical expertise
  • Team oriented and collegiate with a willingness to work as part of a team on larger matters and to assist with business development
  • Create and maintain strong relationships with colleagues across the firm, enabling collaboration and innovation
  • Demonstrates proactive financial management in relation to billing, credit control and client service level agreements
  • Able to deal confidently and professionally with clients on day to day issues.
  • Works with appropriate levels of supervision

The Ideal Candidate

  • Manage a busy caseload with a professional negligence focus; taking ownership of smaller claims under appropriate supervision
  • Providing support to Senior Associates, Partners and colleagues on more complex cases
  • Engaging with and maintaining existing client and internal relationships
  • Successfully meeting deadlines, prioritising workload and meeting conflicting demands on time
  • Meeting or exceeding personal monthly and annual financial targets
  • Developing an understanding of our clients' businesses
  • Developing an understanding of the team’s strategy and DACB's business and contributing to and developing Business Development initiatives
  • Working with other departments in the business to develop opportunities and provide a full service to clients

What the team can offer

The successful candidate will have the following opportunities:

  • To work with a friendly, inclusive and diverse team of lawyers;
  • To grow a specialist practice of their own over time;
  • To be involved in Business Development initiatives;
  • To be invited to regular training seminars and webinars and progress their legal knowledge and education;
  • To join networking groups such as the YFLA, JSLA and LSA;
  • To continuously develop skills in a role where no two days are the same; and
  • Some flexibility with a hybrid (home and office) working model.
