Paralegal - Corporate & Commercial

Please Note: The application deadline for this job has now passed.

Job Introduction

This is a fantastic unique opportunity for a Paralegal to join a growing Corporate & Commercial team.

The Paralegal's primary responsibility would be to provide transactional support to fee earners across the Corporate & Commercial team. The Bristol based team is the cornerstone of a very successful corporate and commercial cluster (turnover £5m, 27 lawyers), which has produced highly profitable year on year growth in the last three years. The cluster is led by a group of nine partners who have established a vibrant and inclusive business development culture which encourages and rewards team contribution.

Our clients are blue chip corporates, institutional investors and growth businesses (often technology or IP-driven). Our work encompasses mergers & acquisitions, joint ventures, general commercial, IT outsourcing and procurement and contentious and non-contentious IP.

We are a friendly and open team striving to provide our clients with a modern and pragmatic legal service. We value initiative, confidence and intellectual rigour. Non-legal career experience is welcome. Ambition and a willingness to join the team and learn and grow with it are essential.

Role Responsibility

  • Provides a high level of client service including responding to ad hoc information, document preparation and research requests.
  • Develops an understanding of the client's and our business and how the two fit together.
  • Works on matters of high value and quality in sensitive and complex environments.
  • Works to deadlines, prioritises workload and meets conflicting demands on time.
  • Works with appropriate levels of supervision, recognising matters for escalation.
  • Drafts correspondence and legal documents.
  • Provides ad hoc support to fee earners across the team including general administration (may include some photocopying, scanning and faxing).
  • Contributes to non fee-earning activity: training, preparing client updates, knowledge sharing.

The Ideal Candidate

  • The successful candidate will ideally have completed their LPC.
  • Strong technical skills and an ability to understand and work through complex issues.
  • A demonstrable ability to adopt a commercial perspective rather than an ‘academic’ approach to legal issues and to be highly client focused.
  • Ability to operate with a high level of self-sufficiency, combined with an awareness of the boundaries of own competence/authority.
  • Team oriented and collegiate.
  • Strong organisation skills to ensure a pragmatic and methodical approach to handling a variety of Corporate matters simultaneously.
  • Change-oriented with a positive, flexible approach towards the implementation of new initiatives.
  • Able to handle a complex and constantly changing workload and to work under pressure.
  • Detail conscious with a concern for quality.
