Paralegal - Public Law & Health Projects

Job Introduction

We are looking for a highly motivated paralegal to join our Public Law and Health Projects team in London. The role will involve exposure to a broad variety of work and supporting fee earners primarily in London. There will be opportunities for the right candidate to take on responsibility in a range of interesting and often high-profile matters, along with the potential for career development.

The national team operates from the Bristol, London, Leeds  and Newcastle offices and has a market leading reputation with clients throughout the country within the health and public sector.

We have one of the largest and most respected public law and commercial health teams in the UK. Our clients include central and local government, non-departmental public bodies, NHS organisations (Commissioners, providers and private sector health organisations), medtech providers, independent sector providers of health and social care, organisations in the education sector, statutory and chartered bodies and regulators,   and other companies and charities working for or with the public sector. This role is focused on supporting commercial health, health projects and public law work across this range of clients.

DAC Beachcroft's commercial offering to the health sector ranges from advice on procurement of goods and services, commissioning contracts, joint ventures, collaborations and mergers, the exploitation of intellectual property and products, advising on new models of care and integration.

The team advises on matters such as:

  • Commissioning Contracts
  • EU and Public procurement
  • Integration projects
  • Primary Care Contracting
  • NHS mergers and acquisitions
  • Section 75 Partnership Agreements
  • Supply of Goods and Services
  • PFI contracts
  • Outsourcing
  • Joint Ventures
  • Managed Equipment Schemes
  • Data Protection and Freedom of Information
  • Judicial review
  • Public sector decision making and advice on general public law principles
     

Role Responsibility

Working from a London you will be supporting fee earners primarily in London, but also across the national team where required. You will help the Public Law and Health Projects Team with its  focus on delivery of prompt, first class services to the clients of the firm.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • attending meetings with team members to assist and take notes;
  • assisting with legal research;
  • supporting business development initiatives;
  • document management, particularly on large scale projects;
  • reviewing and proof reading documents;
  • taking of attendance notes;
  • supporting administrative tasks (including billing) as required;
  • ensuring that a high level of quality management is achieved on all matters.
     

The Ideal Candidate

Knowledge, relevant experience or a keen interest in  the health and social care sector and public sector more generally is ESSENTIAL. Experience in commercial law and/or public law would be an advantage.

This is an ideal opportunity for an individual looking to develop as the firm has a proven track record of supporting lawyers through to qualification as Chartered Legal Executives and Solicitors and this role would provide the development required to fulfil that criteria for the right candidate.  This has so far been through CILEx study, alternative means and traditional training contracts. 

We also expect the successful applicant to have/be:

  • a very good academic track record, preferably including either a degree in law or a related subject and/or prior paralegal experience. Having an LPC qualification is desirable, though not essential depending on other experience;
  • attention to detail and a concern for quality are essential;
  • an outgoing, confident communicator with good oral and written communication skills;
  • an enthusiastic, flexible, self-motivated and committed team player, happy to work on larger matters as part of a team with shared responsibilities;
  • strong organisational skills, together with the ability to manage deadlines and work under pressure;
  • ability to concentrate on routine tasks;
  • reliable, responsible and capable of following instructions; strong interpersonal skills essential;
  • IT literate;
  • team oriented and collegiate with a willingness to share knowledge with and support other members of the team.
