NQ/Paralegal/Legal Executive (Information Law)

Job Introduction

Our public law team sits within our wider Health, Care and Public Law Cluster which has a presence in London, Leeds, Newcastle and Bristol. It provides public sector information law advice to clients of all departments, and on a national basis.

We have a thriving public sector client base, particularly in healthcare and central and local government (for example; Information Commissioner, NHS commissioners and providers, universities, charities) and a large commercial client base which provides works and services to the public sector. We regularly work on high profile, cutting edge, precedent-setting cases, projects and claims that attract media attention.

Role Responsibility

The role will include:

  • Handling data breach claims, including associated ICO complaints and notifications
  • Handling other data protection related litigation
  • Assisting on and developing an understanding of public law litigation, such as judicial reviews
  • Advising public bodies on disclosure requests from organisations such as the police and the GMC
  • Handling FOI and EIRs requests, complaints to the ICO and First-Tier Tribunal appeals

There will also be opportunities to get involved with:

  • Reviewing and amending contractual documents to ensure compliance with data protection legislation
  • Advising on the risks and legal requirements of data sharing frameworks within the health sector, including advising on data protection impact assessments
  • Advising on regulatory due diligence projects (with a focus on data compliance)
  • General advice on information governance matters for a range of health and social care clients

The Ideal Candidate

Essential

  • Commercial litigation experience – all stages from issue to trial
  • Interest in and enthusiasm for data protection
  • Interest in and enthusiasm for health
  • Newcastle or Leeds

Desirable

  • County court experience
  • Data protection litigation experience
  • Data protection advisory experience
  • Health experience
