MI Consultant

Job Introduction

Reporting to the MI Manager, this role will be the first point of contact for the end-to-end delivery of MI services to our clients, our business teams and supporting services, and to act as the first point of escalation for relevant stakeholders.

The role is expected to assess current and future requirements expected of the MI Team, achieved through a comprehensive understanding of:

  • Our Client’s strategies and priorities;
  • Our businesses products, organisation and operating model;
  • The technical resources and IT and MI services currently available and in development.

The role will engage peer functions across client-facing and business services departments, and offer support and collaboration with external client-based teams. The role is also expected to support commercial development opportunities, and MI-related audit activity. The role balances organisational awareness with technical development experience, it requires practical application of business analysis and change management skills. The role is intended to highlight areas of continual improvement within the portfolio of services offered by the MI Team, maintaining a clear focus on operational excellence and product development of high value to the business.

Role Responsibility

  • Represent MI and the wider IT function as the subject matter expert (SME) on MI systems, processes, services, and their link to wider Business Services and Client-facing teams;
  • Own the MI response in non-leadership forums;
  • Work with commercial and business services functions to agree and shape the delivery of 'fit-for-purpose' MI solutions, shaping packages of work for development and delivery teams, supporting or co-ordinating project-based activity, and monitoring progress to ensure completion on-time and on-budget;
  • Develop business requirements for MI outputs, and design / re-engineer related work flows and processes;
  • Liaising with both technical and non-technical professionals to plan and co-ordinate the development and delivery of new regular reporting and analysis typically using Excel, SQL, SSRS, and Qlik;
  • Identify any organisational impacts associated with change projects and work within MI Team and peer group functions to ensure all impacts, risks and issues are mitigated;
  • Support commercial tendering work, and the on-boarding of new clients into established IT and MI services;
  • Monitor the overall patterns of demand on the MI Team, including services in production, retired services, services in development, and change management activity;
  • Align resources and plans with the IT strategy, Enterprise Architecture best practices, and the IT PMO portfolio;
  • Identify continual improvement across the MI function, and engage appropriate resources to effect change;
  • Report upwardly to MI Manager and IT Leadership team on performance, projects and initiatives.

The Ideal Candidate

 

Qualifications  

  • A-level education (in maths, science, business, or computing);
  • ITIL Foundation Certificate (or above);
  • Prince2 Foundation / Practitioner

Skills and experience 

Essential:

  • 5+ years’ experience in an analytical role, ideally within Legal, Finance or other regulated industries;
  • 3+ years’ experience in a management-level role, or an equivalent senior co-ordinating role;
  • A broad technical knowledge across analytical tools (e.g. Excel, SQL, SSIS, SSRS, Qlik etc.), with relevant experience and knowledge of delivering in a technical role / team;
  • Familiarity with Financial and Case Management systems / data structures;
  • Experience of data extraction, migration, reporting and / or analytical projects;
  • Experience in reporting, process re-engineering, change management, and stakeholder management;
  • Knowledge of current and emerging concepts, best practice and related tools and technologies within the sector and wider market.
  • Adept in communicating and explaining data analytics outputs, methods, processes, and related benefits to peers, key stakeholders across the business (up to leadership level), and to external clients as required.

Desirable:

  • Experience in a similar role, ideally within Legal, Finance or other regulated industries;
  • Experience in designing and/or implementing IT services, processes and procedures;
  • Experience in management / leadership within technical teams or functions;
  • Awareness of business process modelling notation (BPMN);
  • Awareness of Business Relationship Management Professional (BRMP) foundation concepts / training;
  • Awareness of BCS Business Analysis foundation concepts / training.

  • Commercially aware, and able to see value of data in support of commercial initiatives;
  • Strong written, and verbal communication skills with the ability to convey complex and technical messages in a format suitable for a wide range of audiences and purposes;
  • Good interpersonal and managerial skills with the ability to develop/maintain relationships with own team and influence stakeholders to senior levels;
  • Ability to manage, develop and motivate people;
  • Commitment to continuous improvement, with the tenacity and motivation to actively seek and implement change to processes and products;
  • Effective decision-making.
