Head Clerk - Advocacy Team - Birmingham, Bristol, London or Manchester

Job Introduction

We are looking for a Head Clerk to join our in house Advocacy team at 8DB and lead the clerking team. The purpose of the role is to work alongside the Practice Manager to drive development of the Barristers in their specialist areas, to lead the clerking team to ensure a quality service is provided to all clients and to ensure a high standard of support is provided for all Barristers and Advocates.

 

The preferred locations for the position are Birmingham, Bristol, London or Manchester but we welcome applications from candidates nationwide. Given our firms’ flexible working policy location will not be a restricting factor to applications.

Role Responsibility

  • Supervise the day to day roles of the Senior Clerk, Clerks and Junior Clerks;
  • Develop the skillsets and knowledge of the Senior Clerk and Clerks and facilitate their growth journeys;
  • Assist the Practice Manager and Product Heads with business development for all internal and external clients;
  • Assist the Practice Manager to develop the practices of all barristers and advocates;
  • Assess and develop policies and procedures for all aspects of the clerking team; 
  • Ensure that the clerking team responds efficiently to high volumes of diary bookings and enquiries;
  • Assist the clerking team to provide and negotiate fees for high value and complex matters;
  • Ensure that the clerking team are proactively chasing paperwork for Barristers/Advocates ahead of their hearings; and
  • Ensure that the clerking team are raising daily fee disbursements for work undertaken.
