Data Engineering Manager - Bristol

Job Introduction

DAC Beachcroft is looking to appoint a Data Engineering Manager into our IT Team in Bristol.

The Data & Insights function within DACB is established to develop new data and analytical capabilities to help the business better understand the drivers of business performance. This new position will lead the development and support of these new capabilities as we migrate to Azure.

This role would suit a commercially focussed data professional with a strong track record of delivering data solutions at scale. A technical specialist, who leverages their skills and experience to deliver strategic transformation of data capability.

Role Responsibility

 The Data Engineering Manager will:

  • Plan and manage work to deliver high quality data assets in line with the agreed roadmap 
  • Work with end users and IT Teams to define and shape the best data solutions for the business problems
  • Take an active and hands-on data analysis and engineering role 
  • Implement, and continuously improve, data standards and best practices to ensure consistency and accuracy of the solutions (coding, version control & CI/CD)
  • Work with the Principal Data Architect to ensure that solutions are robust, secure and flexible and meet the user’s requirements 
  • Coach and train the other members of the team and ensure that they have the capabilities, skills and support required (This role will involve line management in the medium term).
  • Proactively define the toolset choices and ensure that their full potential is realised, and new opportunities are regularly reviewed 

Technical requirements for the role are:                

  • Practical experience with cloud-based systems (ideally Azure but GCP/AWS experience considered) and the relevant databases on offer (e.g. Big Query, Redshift, Azure SQL, Snowflake)
  • Commercially focussed with demonstrated ability to understand business problems and define and create robust data solutions 
  • Proven capability to implement and use different database structures 
  • Comprehensive understanding of data warehousing principles, data modelling and best practices 
  • Advanced SQL, data transformation and source data analysis skills 
  • Extensive experience of building production ETL/ELT pipelines at scale 
  • Strong problem-solving skills coupled with the ability to convey designs and ideas to a wider audience 
  • Experience of managing a small team, coaching and supporting colleagues

  • Able to pay and maintain close attention to detail
  • Can understand technical complexities and issues, and be able to explain and translate these to a less technical audience
