Job Introduction

Are you looking for a fast-paced role in a rapidly developing area of law where you will be intellectually challenged and treated with respect?  Or an environment where you can enjoy market-leading work with frequent client contact and business development opportunities to help you build your future career?  If so, then a career in our Cyber and Data Risk team may be for you.

Why should you be excited about a career with us?  Members of our team are empowered to develop their own client contacts and relationships from the start of their careers; you will see how your contribution directly impacts on your clients and understand how the service you provide helps them.  We are also very proud of our client base, who provide us with top-quality instructions.  We have the backing of a truly international firm with over 2,500 colleagues across 9 countries and with a myriad of international associations further bolstering our capabilities.

We aim to encourage diversity by offering the opportunity to bring your whole self to work, underpinned by our employer brand of A Life That Works.  Our team are very busy and work hard but we offer genuine flexibility to allow you to meet your personal and work commitments – and that flexibility won’t disappear post-Covid! – it has been hardwired into our DNA for years.  All across our team, from our emerging talent to our senior leadership, you won’t find a closed door, real or virtual.  Read on for more information about our specific vacancy and the firm as a whole.

Our Cyber and Data Risk team is market-leading, multi-award winning, and in a period of significant growth.  We are therefore recruiting for Associates (2+PQE) and Senior Associates (6+PQE) who are looking to join us on our journey as we grow our practice for the future.

Our team has responded to hundreds of breaches and Cyber and Data Risk incidents, helping clients of all sizes, from SMEs to Global Corporates. We are true specialists, guiding clients through their crisis and defending any regulatory investigation and privacy litigation that follows.

We are a preferred legal services provider to the Cyber and Data Risk insurance industry which ensures a regular and growing flow of data breach matters. The team typically acts as the first responder, coordinating the breach and forensic investigation alongside providing legal advice.

As an emerging area of law with increasing demand, there are few experts and many opportunities, meaning this is an ideal area for those seeking career progression and development.  We are committed to developing and promoting our internal talent.

Role Responsibility

As part of the Cyber and Data Risk team you will:

  • Have the opportunity to interact on a regular basis with clients.
  • Share your knowledge of key issues and provide meaningful advice to clients;
  • Have responsibility for leading on exciting and fast-paced breach notifications;
  • Operate at the cutting edge of this emerging area of law;
  • Operate with autonomy, but with the benefit of support and supervision from leading practitioners at all times;
  • Have opportunities to interact directly with clients on high-profile matters, often in the public domain, and build your own client base;
  • Work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, often making time pressured and critical decisions;
  • Work in a highly collaborative environment, both within the team, across the firm, and with clients.

We are looking for new colleagues who have an interest in the Cyber and Data Risk area and in how the law can help clients to achieve goals.  This team suits self-starters with the ability to meet client demand in time-critical matters.  We look forward to discussing our opportunities with you.

The Ideal Candidate

Cyber and Data Risk sits as part of our wider Professional and Financial Lines, by which we mean providing expert legal advice to clients across an engaging mix of insured professional disciplines including Professional Indemnity, Financial Institutions, Directors and Officers, Cyber and Data Risk, Warranty and Indemnity, and Construction.  Our teams work collaboratively across these disciplines and, whilst everyone will have their area of particular expertise, we encourage cross-working so colleagues have genuine variety in their work and can use their rounded expertise to provide creative, bespoke solutions for our clients.  As such, if you are keen to undertake a mix of Professional and Financial Lines work, whilst also practising in Cyber and Data Risk, this may be an excellent opportunity for you.
