Construction Associate - Professional & Commercial Risk North

We provide expert legal advice to clients across an engaging mix of professional disciplines including Professional Indemnity, Financial Institutions, Directors and Officers, Cyber, Warranty and Indemnity, and Construction.  Our teams work collaboratively across these disciplines and, whilst everyone will have their area of particular expertise, we encourage cross-working so colleagues have genuine variety in their work and can use their rounded expertise to provide creative, bespoke solutions for our clients.

Role Responsibility

As part of our growth and strategy, our Northern Construction Professional Indemnity team is looking to recruit an additional 4-6 year qualified solicitor to join our Specialist Construction and Engineering Professional Indemnity team in Leeds. The individual will play an active role in the continued growth and success of the team in collaboration with our wider practice in the North, nationally and internationally. The team acts for all the main Insurance companies and Insured professionals in the supply chain. We deal with the full spectrum of Insurance work from Policy cover, recovery and strategic advice to Insurers.

As part of the team you will have:

  • the opportunity to interact on a regular basis with clients.  You will share your knowledge of key issues and provide meaningful advice to clients;
  • responsibility for conducting litigation, Pre-Action matters being able to conduct adjudications will be a significant advantage, as will the ability to draft submissions and to understand the intricacies of construction business;
  • the opportunity to run and support High Court matters, therefore a knowledge of procedure and rules is a ‘must’;
  • responsibility for running disclosure exercises and drafting witness statements;
  • a good  understanding of alternative dispute resolution, including mediation;
  • the opportunity to liaise directly with experts and counsel, therefore you will require the ability to understand and direct experts and Counsel.

  • have very good relationship and client handling skills, commensurate with experience;
  • be able to deal confidently and professionally with clients on day to day issues;
  • have a good level of self-sufficiency, and manage a caseload  including complex and high value disputes;
  • be change oriented with a positive, flexible approach towards the implementation of new initiatives;
  • be team oriented and collegiate with a willingness to share knowledge with and support other members of the team;
  • Demonstrate a willingness to work hard as part of a highly ambitious and driven team to help it continue to develop and to achieve its objectives;
