Commercial Litigation Associate – Manchester

Job Introduction

Our Commercial Dispute Resolution team carries out a wide range of dispute related work, including contractual claims; economic torts; shareholder/company disputes and the like. We also deal with a number of specialist areas such as fraud, technology, reputation management, IP, sports and licensing work.

Role Responsibility

  • Undertake High Court litigation as well as mediation and arbitration, drafting documents and managing the relevant dispute resolution process, supporting partners in larger matters as well as managing own caseload. 
  • Assist with urgent applications for injunctive relief. 
  • Gain experience in the focus areas of our practice, such as technology, fraud and sports litigation.
  • Act as a point of contact for clients, demonstrating a level of knowledge and skill commensurate with experience.   
  • Support marketing and business development activity. 
  • Build an awareness of the firm's other services and effective internal and external networks. 
  • Maintain an awareness of the firm's strategies and plans. 
  • Maintain and develop technical knowledge through attendance at training sessions, reading appropriate publications and exceeding Law Society CPD requirements. 
  • Handle confidential information in line with the firm's data security protocols. 

The Ideal Candidate

  • Experienced Solicitor (4 - 6 PQE) with a demonstrable interest and previous experience in handling commercial disputes. 
  • Excellent relationship and client handling skills.  Able to deal confidently and professionally with clients on day to day issues.
  • Able to demonstrate a reasonable level of self-sufficiency, combined with an awareness of the boundaries of own competence/authority. 
  • An ability to adopt a commercial perspective rather than simply an ‘academic’ approach to legal issues. 
  • Change-oriented with a positive, flexible approach towards the implementation of new initiatives. 
  • Team-oriented and collegiate with a willingness to share knowledge with and support other members of the team.
