The DAC Beachcroft Clinical Risk cluster is looking to appoint up a Paralegal to work on a specific high profile National project.  The role will be available initially on a 12 month Fixed Term Contract basis but which may well continue on beyond that period.

The project team is responsible for managing defendant claims as part of the largest Group Action currently against the NHS.  The team is centrally supervised out of Newcastle but with fee earners based out of each of our offices. The opportunity for virtual working means that the candidate can be based anywhere in the UK, with access to work from any of our offices is desirable. The Group Action centres on the use of surgical mesh in patient procedures and the claims of patients with regard their consent to its use in their procedure or where the surgery completed was not to standard resulting in life changing injuries.

These roles are based remotely with support from the DAC Beachcroft Clinical Risk team in Newcastle, Winchester, Manchester, Leeds, London and Bristol.

Main responsibilities will include:

  • Running own caseload of defendant clinical negligence claims on behalf of the NHS
  • Responding to claims in the appropriate manner
  • Managing claims under pre action protocol, claim handling agreement or litigation.

The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate the following:

  • Strong technical skill and an ability to understand and work through complex issues.
  • A demonstrable ability to adopt a commercial perspective rather than an ‘academic’ approach to legal issues and to be highly client- focused.
  • Ability to deal confidently and professionally with clients on day to day issues building up strong relationships.
  • Ability to make informed legal decisions based on the information available.
  • An organised and methodical approach to work.
