Associate - CCR Tech

Please Note: The application deadline for this job has now passed.

Job Introduction

DAC Beachcroft are recruiting an Associate Solicitor specifically to join our Technology, Data Protection and Commercial team in Manchester to work for a number of key Technology clients, as well as some of our major national clients across financial services, health, manufacturing and real estate. Work is growing fast resulting in the need to recruit a team member.

The successful applicant would work primarily on IT, data protection and commercial contracts, and will have an opportunity to work for both local and national clients. The workload includes general commercial agreements (agency, distribution, supply of goods and services), software development and licensing, technology implementation projects and bespoke IT agreements for use of AI tools. On the data protection side, we advise on all aspects of compliance, particularly in the context of technology projects.

This is an opportunity to join a successful Manchester based Technology and Privacy team which is part of a national team of approx. 40 Technology and Privacy lawyers. Clients range from quick growth digital businesses, established medium-sized Technology business and ‘blue-chip’ large corporates.

The Manchester team has a very interesting role in terms of its relationship with other teams across the firm – and works closely with London, Leeds and Bristol teams, including the firm’s London data protection and tech teams. The work is therefore broad and of high quality, enabling you to work with various individuals across the wider team for a very broad mix of clients.

The team work remotely and also spend time in the office – DACB has recently finished first in a poll for work-life balance on RollOnFriday (https://www.rollonfriday.com/news-content/law-firms-best-and-worst-worklife-balance-revealed)  - this was largely attributable to our FlexForward scheme.

We also came joint 4th for the happiest law firm to work (https://www.rollonfriday.com/news-content/rollonfriday-firm-year-2020-results-reveal-most-lawyers-arehappy)

  • Work flexibly with clients who may or may not be legally qualified. Develop an early awareness of the relationship with and position of client contacts.
  • Assist, where required, with the relationship management of existing clients of the business.
  • Support marketing and business development activity within the team e.g. article and newsletter authorship, attending seminars and client training.
  • Work with other practice groups to identify mutual business opportunities. Build effective internal and external networks.
  • Maintain an awareness of the firm's strategies and plans.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Knowledge of and genuine interest in Technology and data protection and the market, and the enthusiasm to learn more.
  • Strong Commercial technical skills.
  • Typically having between 2-4 years post qualification experience.
  • Proven ability to meet financial management objectives within Solicitor role.
  • Good relationship and client handling skills. Able to deal confidently and professionally with clients on day to day issues. Able to demonstrate a reasonable level of self-sufficiency, combined with an awareness of the boundaries of own competence/authority.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to negotiate and influence at all levels.
  • Ability to adopt a commercial perspective rather than an ‘academic’ approach to legal issues.
  • Robust personality, not afraid of working for challenging clients.
  • Experience of dealing with commercially minded and focussed clients and shaping advice to the needs of such clients, or able to demonstrate a clear willingness and capability to work in this way.
  • Demonstrate ability to work collaboratively with team members, to share knowledge with and support other members of the team.
